Spain strengthens inland tourism as a strategic sector

Inland tourism is becoming a strategic pillar for Spain as the country seeks to diversify and de-seasonalize its national tourism offerings. By focusing on culture, heritage, gastronomy, and nature, various autonomous communities are strengthening strategies to attract travelers seeking sustainability and local connection.

In Castilla y León, the tourism profile is diverse. While national tourists represent 75% of demand, international visitors account for 25% and are increasing. Madrid is the primary source market, contributing 28.56% of visitors, largely driven by weekend trips. The demographic in Castilla y León is balanced by gender, with a majority of visitors aged 55 and older (35.4%), though the 25-34 age group is also growing.

Similarly, in Aragón, inland tourism relies heavily on the national market for direct tourism spending, having received six million national visitors.
