Spain to approve new inflation relief decree on September 29

The Spanish government is set to approve a new decree on Tuesday, September 29, to provide aid against inflation driven by the crisis in the Middle East. First Vice President and Minister of Economy Carlos Cuerpo confirmed the announcement during a session in Congress, noting that the new measures are intended to replace current support packages that expire on September 30.

This marks the third such aid package approved in 2026, following previous measures in March and June that included subsidies for agricultural diesel and fertilizers. The upcoming decree aims to extend support to the industrial, energy, and agri-food sectors, which have been heavily impacted by rising energy and raw material costs.

Minister Cuerpo emphasized a long-term strategy focused on reducing energy dependency and promoting the electrification of the economy. Regarding food prices, the Minister stated that the government is monitoring second-round impacts on the grocery basket, describing the current trend as ‘practically flat.’ Once approved by the Council of Ministers, the decree must be validated by Congress within 30 days.
