Spain tops World Cup stats for passes, accuracy and off‑the‑ball runs

Official FIFA data from the first two matches of the tournament show Spain leading several key performance metrics. The team completed 1,554 passes – the most of any side – and achieved a 93 % pass‑completion rate, the highest accuracy recorded. Spanish players also made the greatest number of off‑the‑ball runs behind the opposition defense (384), and the team registered the second‑most line‑break attempts (61) after the United States.

Mid‑fielder Marc Cucurella recorded the most runs behind the defense of any player in the competition. Spain remained one of only four teams without conceding a goal and recovered possession on average every 19.11 seconds, slower only than Canada and Turkey. The side produced 49 shots on target, placing it second overall, and scored four goals across its two games – a 4‑0 win over Saudi Arabia and a 0‑0 draw with Cabo Verde.

Compared with peers, Portugal and Turkey followed Spain in passes completed and accuracy, while Germany posted the highest expected‑goals figure (6.64) and the most shots overall.
