Spain tourism hits record 100 million visitors in 2026

Spain has reached a significant milestone in its tourism sector, with visitor numbers exceeding 100 million for the first time during the first eight months of 2026. According to data from the Spanish Statistics Institute (INE), total visitors, including day trippers, rose 3.9 percent year-on-year to 102.9 million. Overnight tourists saw a more substantial increase of 5.4 percent, reaching 70.3 million.

This growth in volume has driven tourism revenue toward the 100 billion euro mark, reflecting an 8 percent increase. Key source markets contributing to this growth include the United Kingdom (13.9 million visitors), France (9.3 million), Germany (8.2 million), Italy (4.4 million), and the United States (3.4 million).

Parallel to rising visitor numbers, the hospitality investment market is seeing record activity. In the first half of 2026, hotel transactions in Spain reached 2.46 billion euros, a 36 percent increase compared to the previous year. This investment surge is largely driven by Spanish family capital focusing on repositioning existing properties into the luxury segment. Major activity is concentrated in regions such as Mallorca, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria.
