Spain traffic regulations and parking incidents
In Spain, parking in spaces reserved for persons with reduced mobility without proper authorization is classified as a serious traffic violation. Under current laws, the fine is 200 euros, which can be reduced to 100 euros if paid within the first 20 days. While current regulations do not include the loss of driver's license points, organizations such as the Spanish Committee of Representatives of Persons with Disabilities (CERMI) are advocating for such penalties to be included in future road safety law reforms.
If a vehicle is parked in a reserved space without a visible permit, municipal services may authorize the vehicle to be towed, adding towing and storage fees to the fine. Citizens can report such infractions through a process known as ‘denuncia a requerimiento’ (report by request), which can be done verbally to a police officer or in writing at a police station.
In a separate instance of parking mismanagement, a viral social media post highlighted a vehicle in a public parking lot in Cádiz that collided with another car while attempting to park, resulting in bumper-to-bumper contact due to poor maneuvering.
