Spain transport disruptions: road closures and weather-related rail delays
Spain is experiencing various transport and infrastructure disruptions due to planned maintenance and severe weather.
In Toledo, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has initiated emergency repairs on a railway structure over the N-400 highway in Santa Cruz de la Zarza. The 2.4 million euro project involves reinforcing the structure with carbon fiber and will require a complete closure of the N-400 between kilometers 81.7 and 82.6 from August 24, 2026, until October 16, 2026. Traffic is being diverted to the A-40 highway.
In Catalonia, heavy rain and weather conditions have caused significant disruptions to the RL4 train line. Adif reported that a house roof fell onto the catenary between Calaf and Manresa, cutting service between Manresa and Lleida-Pirineus. This follows several recent days of service interruptions on the same line due to signaling and power supply issues.
In the Valencian Community, severe weather in La Ribera Baixa caused a tree to fall onto the railway infrastructure between Alzira and La Pobla Llarga. This incident forced a temporary suspension of the C2 Cercanías de València line and caused delays for medium and long-distance trains.
