Spain travel insurance demand surges with record tourism
Spain is set to record a new peak in summer tourist arrivals, prompting a noticeable rise in demand for travel insurance and assistance services. José Luis Tirador, Commercial Director of Allianz Partners Spain, said that the higher volume of trips increases exposure to incidents such as transport delays, cancellations, luggage loss, medical problems and weather‑related disruptions. He noted that 57% of Spanish travelers have already purchased or plan to purchase travel insurance this summer, and 68% factor environmental and climate risks into their destination choices.
AXA Partners’ Commercial Director for Assistance, Paula de Castro, added that the surge will generate more assistance requests and put additional pressure on medical networks in the country. She highlighted the United States as the destination with the greatest cost impact for Spanish travelers, driving higher insurance premiums and claims.
The combined statements underline travel insurance’s shift from an optional add‑on to an essential element of trip planning in Spain’s booming tourism market.
