Spain trial begins over decades-old Bar España conspiracy rumors
Six individuals are facing trial in Castellón, Spain, regarding the long-running dissemination of false rumors involving the Bar España in Benicarló. The defendants are accused of crimes against moral integrity, insults, and public slander.
Since at least 1998, these individuals allegedly spread conspiracy theories claiming a pedophilia ring operated out of the establishment, involving prominent figures in politics, justice, business, and law enforcement. While the Bar España was a real location, the alleged criminal network was entirely fabricated.
The trial, scheduled to take place over six sessions, includes high-profile witnesses who were among those defamed by the rumors, such as former regional president Francisco Camps.
