Spain upgrades Valencia conference centre and Madrid ministry with smart lighting

The Valencia Conference Centre has completed a multi‑year transformation into an intelligent building. Between 2024 and 2026 the city allocated €1.8 million, financed by Next Generation EU funds, to install advanced energy‑management tools, including the Metasys supervision system and the Data Pool platform that centralise data from building systems. The upgrade also added a photovoltaic roof for self‑consumption, LED interior lighting and new electric‑vehicle charging points, and began the first phase of a digital twin of the venue.

In Madrid, the Ministry of Industry and Tourism has launched a tender to replace the 2,800 existing luminaires in its headquarters on Paseo de la Castellana 160. The €552,613 contract will remove outdated T5 fluorescent tubes and install 2,774 LED panels and 26 LED downlights, with adjustable controls compatible with open digital protocols. The project aims to cut electricity use, improve visual comfort for staff and enable precise, remote lighting management.

Both initiatives form part of Spain’s broader push to modernise public buildings, reduce energy consumption and showcase smart‑technology solutions funded by European recovery programmes.
