Spain veterinary sector updates labor agreements and parliamentary reports

The Spanish veterinary sector is undergoing significant regulatory and labor changes. A new collective agreement for the 2026–2028 period has been established between the Confederación Empresarial Veterinaria Española (CEVE) and unions including FSS-CCOO, UGT, and FETICO.

The agreement mandates annual salary increases of 4% for 2026, 2027, and 2028. It also includes a revision clause tied to the Consumer Price Index (IPC), allowing for additional payments if inflation exceeds 4%, capped at 1.25%. For 2026, annual salaries are set at €28,958.38 for veterinary directors, €23,693.20 for generalists, and €18,055.13 for clinical veterinary assistants.

Simultaneously, the Spanish Congress is finalizing a report on the veterinary sector. The Organización Colegial Veterinaria (OCV) has submitted recommendations to a parliamentary subcommittee. Key areas of focus include taxation, the electronic prescription system (Presvet), professional specialization, and the integration of the profession into public health decision-making under the ‘One Health’ approach.
