Spain women's basketball squad announced for 2024 World Cup in Germany

Spain's women's national basketball team has released a 21‑player roster for the 2024 FIBA World Cup, scheduled in Germany from 4 to 13 September. Coach Miguel Méndez retained captain Alba Torrens, who returns after a stint with club Azulmarino, and added a strong contingent from Valencia Basket, including Elena Buenavida, María Araújo, Raquel Carrera, Alicia Flórez and Helena Pueyo. WNBA rookie Awa Fam, now playing for the Seattle Storm, also makes the list.

The squad will prepare on a tour named “Volvemos a soñar”, facing Germany, Mali, Belgium, China and Nigeria before the tournament. In the World Cup, Spain is drawn in Group A with host Germany, Japan and Mali, seeking to improve on its recent EuroBasket silver medal.

The selection reflects Spain's aim to field a youthful, progressing team capable of challenging for a medal at the global event.
