Spain women's basketball team begins World Cup campaign
The Spanish women's national basketball team has begun its campaign at the Women's Basketball World Cup in Germany. In their opening match, Spain secured a decisive 83-53 victory against the host nation.
Ahead of the tournament, CaixaBank, a sponsor of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB), hosted an official farewell event at Madrid-Barajas Airport. During the event, the bank presented the team with their official jerseys, which feature the official FIBA patch for the 2026 World Cup. The squad, led by veteran Alba Torrens and coach Miguel Méndez, represents a new generation of players including Mariona Ortiz, who currently plays for Casademont Zaragoza.
The tournament, which commenced in Berlin, is scheduled to run until September 13.
