Spain’s 2025 Bullfighting Festivities Reach One Quarter of Municipalities

The National Association of Bullfighting Event Organisers (ANOET) released a 2025 report showing that 21,570 bullfighting festivals were held in 2,142 municipalities, meaning the activity was present in about 26 % of Spanish towns. The report notes that six autonomous communities – Castilla y León, Castilla‑La Mancha, Aragón, the Valencian Community, Andalucía and Extremadura – accounted for 83.6 % of the municipalities with events.

When adjusted for population, Navarra and Aragón topped the per‑capita ranking with 225 festivals per 100,000 inhabitants. The Valencian Community led the count of popular festivals with 9,499 events, followed by Aragón (2,960), Castilla y León (1,922), Navarra (1,510) and Castilla‑La Mancha (1,276), together representing 85 % of all popular celebrations.

Traditional "lidia" spectacles showed a more even geographic spread, with Castilla y León, Castilla‑La Mancha, Madrid, Andalucía and Extremadura concentrating 68 % of those events. Larger cities of more than 500,000 residents averaged 25.2 festivals.
