The Dirección General de Tráfico forecasts more than 104 million long‑distance journeys in Spain between July and August 2026, a 3.7 % increase over the previous summer. The surge coincides with the start of "Operación Salida" – the period of intense traffic flow.

An analysis of claim files from the 2024 and 2025 Operación Salida periods, covering over 200 cases, shows rear‑end collisions are the most frequent type of accident, accounting for roughly 38 % of claims in 2024 and about half of all claims in 2025. Cervical injuries dominate the medical outcomes, with more than half of claimants reporting neck pain, whiplash or related conditions. Compensation amounts vary widely, from a few thousand euros to over €50 000 for severe injuries.

Authorities and the RACE Foundation advise drivers of electric and plug‑in hybrid vehicles to plan charging stops every 200 km or roughly two hours, keep a buffer on the battery (avoiding arrivals below 3 % charge), and prepare payment apps or RFID cards in advance. The guidance emphasizes integrating charging breaks with rest, hydration and safety checks, rather than treating them as last‑minute stops.
