Spain's 2026 World Cup squad announced amid key absences and pending selections

Spain has named a 26‑player roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Coach Luis de la Fuente left out several high‑profile players, including goalkeepers Remiro and Robert Sánchez; defenders Carvajal, Huijsen, Le Normand and Carreras; midfielders Barrios, Fornals and Isco; and forwards Marco Asensio, Álvaro Moleiro and Gonzalo. Spain will open the tournament on 15 June against Cape Verde after friendly matches with Peru. De la Fuente still has doubts on the fitness and form of Mikel Merino, Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams ahead of the debut.
