Spain's Adif and CEL Sign Deal to Boost Freight Rail Share to 10% by 2030

The Spanish railway infrastructure manager Adif and the logistics group Centro Español de Logística (CEL) have signed a two‑year cooperation protocol aimed at increasing the share of freight moved by rail. The agreement, signed through the Office of the Atlantic Corridor Commissioner, sets out joint actions to identify solutions that shift cargo from road to rail, with the explicit target of reaching a 10 % modal share for rail freight by 2030.

Key initiatives include a series of sectoral events, notably the “Foro Protagonistas del Transporte Ferroviario de Mercancías” at the Logistics & Automation fair on 12 November, and the creation of a working group together with the Plataforma Tecnológica Ferroviaria Española. The group will produce an annual strategic report outlining operational levers to promote rail adoption, which will be presented at the forum. Both parties say the collaboration will help decarbonise supply chains and improve competitiveness by aligning infrastructure with the needs of shippers and operators.
