Spain's Alicante and Algete launch new culinary competitions
The Alicante Gastronómica fair announced the inaugural "A Cuchillo" professional ham‑cutting contest, scheduled for 2 October. Up to eight chefs will demonstrate cutting techniques before the public, with prizes for technical skill, plating, and audience choice. The event is organised by Luga Sabores and highlighted by fair president Gema Amor as a showcase of a traditional Spanish product.
Meanwhile, the municipality of Algete opened registration for its "Paellas Al Grano" 2026 contest, set for 12 September in Parque Europa. Residents may enter individually or in teams, with cash prizes and a karaoke entertainment component. Participants must submit entries by 10 August, and a minimum of ten entrants is required for the competition to proceed.
