Spain's Almería and Tarragona commence major urban regeneration projects

The Almería city council approved a contract worth €288,699.25 to Mayfra Obras y Servicios S.L. for the regeneration of six streets in the Barrio de Los Pintores. The works, part of the ERRP programme funded by the EU Next Generation EU recovery plan, will renew pavements, lighting and accessibility over an estimated two‑and‑a‑half‑month period. Councilor Eloísa Cabrera said the award “represents a significant step forward in our commitment to comprehensive neighbourhood regeneration.”

In Tarragona, the municipal government rescinded a previous contract for the Santiyán building and will now issue a single tender covering both phases of the project. The plan aims to transform the 19th‑century structure into an auditorium and multiple meeting modules, with the combined works expected to be ready by next autumn. Residents, represented by association president Mari Carmen Puig, expressed frustration, calling the earlier delays “indignante.” The new schedule pushes the start of construction to spring‑summer of the following year.
