Spain's Andalusian police seize 17,000 liters of fuel for narco‑boats

The Spanish government’s April National Security Report identified narcotics trafficking as a central threat to national security, noting that drug gangs in Andalusia have upgraded their firepower and operate with a sense of impunity. The report also highlighted the recent deaths of two civil guard members in Huelva during a chase of armed traffickers, underscoring the police’s limited capacity to counter the increasingly aggressive narco‑lanchas.

In a coordinated operation across the province of Cádiz, the National Police dismantled a fuel‑supply network that fuels drug‑smuggling vessels. Agents seized a total of 17,375 litres of gasoline from multiple vehicles—including 295 drums (7,375 L) in San Fernando, 200 drums (5,000 L) in Conil de la Frontera, and another 200 drums (5,000 L) from a refrigerated truck near Villamartín. Four individuals were arrested, one of whom was placed in pre‑trial detention.
