Spain's Atlantic Corridor high‑speed rail reaches 99% coverage in Galicia by 2030

The Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility projects that the Atlantic Corridor high‑speed rail network will expand from 33 to 62 stations across 28 provinces by 2030. The corridor, which already serves 66 % of the national population and gross domestic product, will give 99 % of Galicia’s residents access to a high‑speed station within one hour. Similar coverage levels are forecast for the Basque Country (100 %), Castile‑León (94 %), Extremadura (92 %) and Navarre (100 %).

The number of people able to reach a high‑speed station in under an hour is expected to rise from 22.4 million today to 26.8 million in 2030, and 70 % of corridor inhabitants will be able to reach more than one station within that time. Investment plans include €3.123 billion in rail contracts awarded for 2025 and €789.2 million for the Burgos‑Vitoria line in 2026, underscoring the government's push to strengthen multimodal connectivity in north‑western Spain.
