Spain's auto industry pushes for electric vehicle aid and unveils €3.3bn electrification investment

The Canary Islands government met with automotive groups FREDICA, ACONAUTO and AEDIVE, urging the Spanish central government to promptly launch a new round of electric‑vehicle subsidies similar to the successful MOVES programme and the pending Auto+ plan. Minister Mariano Hernández Zapata said, "the energy transition requires a deep transformation of the transport model and the continuity of tools that have proven effective." The stakeholders highlighted the need for funds to sustain vehicle uptake and charging infrastructure across the archipelago.

Separately, Volkswagen Group executive Markus Haupt announced a €3.3 billion investment to electrify the Martorell plant, part of a broader €10 billion programme aimed at making Spain a European hub for electromobility. The launch of the CUPRA Raval, the first fully electric vehicle designed and produced in Spain, was presented as a showcase of the country's industrial capacity and a catalyst for a Mediterranean‑wide industrial re‑orientation toward sustainable mobility.
