Spain's Auto+ Plan drives surge in electrified vehicle sales

The Auto+ Plan, a Spanish government initiative designed to replace the previous MOVES program, has led to a significant increase in electrified vehicle registrations. In August, registrations for pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles rose by 27%, more than doubling the 11.8% growth seen in the overall car market.

Plug-in models accounted for 27.7% of sales in August. Year-to-date, electrified vehicles have reached a market share of 22.6%, up five percentage points from the previous year. Conversely, diesel engines saw a decline, representing only 2.7% of August registrations.

The program is funded with several hundred million euros and provides subsidies for the purchase of electric cars and vans. Line 1 of the program is available to individuals for new or nearly new electrified vehicles, while Line 2 targets companies, freelancers, and professionals, including leasing and renting options. The initiative is managed directly by the state and is intended to remain in effect until December 31, 2030.
