Spain's best beach cities and quiet coastal villages

A travel guide lists Spain's most popular coastal cities for beach vacations, highlighting Barcelona, Valencia, Málaga, San Sebastián, Santander, Alicante, A Coruña, Cádiz, Marbella and Benidorm. These destinations combine urban attractions with nearby or city‑center beaches, many of which were artificially created for events such as the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.

The same guide also points out five lesser‑known seaside villages that remain largely untouched by mass tourism, including Conil de la Frontera in Cádiz, the fishing hamlets of El Rompido and Mazagón on the Costa de la Luz, Garachico in Tenerife with its natural pools, and the remote area of the Mariña Lucense in Lugo, Galicia. These spots offer tranquil sands, cooler climates and limited infrastructure, serving as alternatives to the crowded resorts of the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca.
