Spain's citrus season posts record lemon prices, Andalusian mandarins supply a third

In 2024, Andalusia produced about one‑third of Spain’s mandarins, accounting for roughly 30% of the national output, 19% of Europe’s and 1% of global production. The region’s mandarin‑growing area continued to expand during the 2024/25 season.

Spain’s 2025/26 lemon season yielded around 1.05 million tonnes, a smaller harvest than the previous year, but prices reached historic highs. Prices for Fino lemons ranged from €0.45 to €0.55 per kilogram and for the Verna variety from €0.90 to €1.00 per kilogram. Despite lower volumes, exports rose as Turkey cut its own lemon shipments by about half, allowing Spain to maintain a market share that at times exceeded 90% of European supply. Processing‑industry volumes fell to roughly 200,000 tonnes from 450,000 tonnes the season before.
