Mexico seizes over 3 tons of methamphetamine in Sonora
Federal security agencies in Mexico seized more than three metric tons (approximately 3,025 kg) of methamphetamine hidden in 60 sacks of livestock feed on a tractor‑trailer traveling the Sonoyta‑Puerto Peñasco highway in Sonora. The driver, a 49‑year‑old man, was stopped after speeding and crossing the wrong lane; the vehicle was bound for Tijuana, Baja California. The operation was coordinated by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (FGR), using intelligence and road‑monitoring tools.
Secretary Omar García Harfuch said the bust “represents millions of doses that will not reach the streets and prevents a financial gain for criminal organizations.” The seizure is described as a major blow to drug‑trafficking groups operating in the northern border region.
