Spain's CNI maintains role in electoral scrutiny security

Claims circulating online regarding the Spanish government's alleged removal of the National Intelligence Centre (CNI) from the electoral scrutiny process for the upcoming November 29 elections have been addressed. Reports suggested that the Ministry of the Interior had taken over responsibilities previously held by the CNI, leading to allegations of potential electoral fraud.

The CNI has clarified that the support provided by the National Cryptologic Centre will continue under the same terms as in previous years. Technical contract specifications for the transmission of provisional scrutiny data show that the CNI maintains its role in collaborating with the Ministry of the Interior to perform security and integrity analyses on the systems and applications used for data transmission, consistent with practices in 2018 and 2022.
