Spain's Comares Verdiales Festival and Lepe Flamenco Festival Celebrate Summer Folk Music

The 24th edition of the Verdiales Festival in the Andalusian town of Comares took place on Saturday, July 18, featuring six panda groups performing the three local styles—Comares, Montes and Almogía—on Plaza Balcón de la Axarquía. Officials including President Jorge Martín and Mayor Miguel Ruiz highlighted the event's cultural heritage, inviting residents and visitors to enjoy traditional music, dance and local cuisine.

Meanwhile, the 6th Lepe Flamenco Festival (M.E.C.) filled the coastal towns of Lepe and La Antilla with flamenco performances. Highlights included dancer María Moreno at the parish church, street performance by Alejandro Rodríguez, a concert by guitarist Antonio Rey with Mara Rey at the Ermita de la Bella, and a closing show by singer Arcángel at the municipal theater. Both festivals attracted large audiences and underscored the region’s vibrant summer cultural calendar.
