Spain's Costa del Sol sees near‑full hotel occupancy as luxury beach prices surge

Mijas, a municipality on the Costa del Sol, reported a hotel occupancy rate of 92.13 % in May and a forecast of 97.61 % for June, the highest among Spanish provinces. Tourism councilor Francisco Jerez said, "these data demonstrate the strength of Mijas as a tourist destination and the huge attraction it continues to have for visitors from inside and outside Spain."

A separate study of Spanish beach holidays found that Formentera, Ibiza and Marbella are the most expensive coastal destinations, with an average weekly cost of €2,180, €1,960 and €1,790 respectively. The research highlighted a growing price gap on the Spanish coast, with 58 % of respondents altering travel plans for financial reasons and 73 % seeing beach vacations as significantly costlier than five years ago.
