Spain's defense industry hits record revenue amid technological expansion
The Spanish defense, security, aeronautics, and space industry reached record figures in 2025, reporting a turnover of 18,034 million euros, an 11.6% increase from the previous year. This growth, driven by companies such as Airbus, Indra, Navantia, and Santa Bárbara Sistemas, supported nearly 290,000 jobs and contributed 24,425 million euros to the national GDP.
Regional industrial hubs are playing critical roles in this expansion. In Madrid, companies are developing advanced technologies, including drones, radars, and cybersecurity solutions, specifically to support the defense of Ukraine and neighboring countries like Poland. In Castilla y León, the upcoming Defense CyL Forum aims to position the region within the national rearmament process, focusing on ammunition, software, and aeronautics.
Experts note a technological revolution in modern warfare, shifting from traditional battlefield combat to machine-led operations involving robotics and electronic support systems. This evolution emphasizes the importance of dual-use technologies that serve both military and civilian purposes.
