Spain's DGT Highlights Top Speed Radar Fines and Double‑Fine Rules

The Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) has identified the ten fixed speed‑radar sites that generate the most traffic fines in Spain. The most penalising locations include the A‑4 at kilometre 13 (limit reduced from 120 km/h to 100 km/h), the A‑6 at kilometre 48, the AP‑7 at kilometre 148 and the M‑40 at kilometre 45, among others. These points concentrate thousands of violations each year, especially during the summer travel surge.

The DGT also clarified that a single radar may issue more than one fine to the same driver on a single journey when the detections correspond to distinct infractions – for example, exceeding the speed limit at separate points or times. However, if two fines stem from the same detection, the principle of "non bis in idem" prevents double punishment. Drivers receiving duplicate tickets are advised to verify the time, location and speed recorded and may contest the sanction if the details are identical.
