Spain's extremist calls over Ceuta spark anti‑Morocco rhetoric

In August 2026, nationalist discourse in Spain intensified around the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla. One article framed alleged “Berber pirates” as a threat to the Spanish nation and urged a resolute defence of the enclaves, invoking historic references to past conflicts.

A canon of the Pamplona Cathedral, Javier Aizpún, posted messages calling for a “reconquest of Morocco,” proposing massive fire on Ceuta’s “invaders” and a bombarding of Rabat. He linked the recent migration surge at Ceuta to a broader geopolitical crisis and suggested coordinated actions such as a “green march” on Gibraltar.
