Spain's fixed broadband connections exceed 20 million

Spain's fixed broadband connections surpassed 20 million for the first time in July 2026, according to statistics from the National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC). The service reached a penetration rate of 40.3 lines per 100 inhabitants.

Growth in the sector is driven almost entirely by fiber optic technology (FTTH), which reached 18.3 million lines after adding approximately 64,804 net new connections in the month. Conversely, Hybrid Fiber-Coaxial (HFC) lines continued to decline, losing 23,853 connections in July.

The market remains highly concentrated. Movistar, Vodafone, and MasOrange collectively hold 79.8% of the fixed broadband market, while the inclusion of DIGI brings the combined share to 94.4%. In the mobile sector, total lines reached 63.61 million, with a penetration rate of 128.3 lines per 100 inhabitants.
