Spain's Foreign Minister Albares and UK's Miliband Sign Gender and Climate Pacts, Reinforce Gibraltar Deal

Spain’s foreign minister José Manuel Albares met his British counterpart Ed Miliband in Madrid, where the two signed bilateral agreements on gender equality and climate cooperation. The joint statement highlighted a shared commitment to the Paris Agreement, the goal of limiting warming to 1.5 °C, and the need for coordinated action on energy security and decarbonisation.

The meeting also reiterated the historic July 14 Gibraltar agreement, describing it as the basis for a new era of shared cooperation. The ministers discussed broader issues, including support for Ukraine, stability in the Middle East, and the economic ties that make the United Kingdom Spain’s second‑largest export market outside the EU and its fourth‑largest investor.
