Spain's global economic rank falls to 14th amid rising inflation
Spain is experiencing a divergence between its reported economic growth and its global economic standing. While the country is growing faster than some major European economies, IMF data indicates that Spain is losing global influence, dropping to 14th in the world rankings after previously holding 12th in 2025 and 8th in 2004.
Compounding this shift is rising inflation, which reached 4.3% in August, marking the highest increase since February 2023. This rise in prices, coupled with wage growth that remains below inflation rates, is impacting the purchasing power and daily cost of living for Spanish households.
