Spain's Grado and Almagro theater festivals unveil September and July programs

The municipality of Grado in Asturias will host the inaugural "Grado en Clásicos – Primer curso: Shakespeare" festival from 7 to 13 September. Organized by Mayra Fernández and Luis Alija of Luz de Gas Teatro and Saltantes Teatro, the event aims to make classic theatre accessible through contemporary language, immersive experiences and open‑air performances. Activities include a five‑day intensive Shakespeare workshop, daily theatrical and musical shows, and a series of public‑focused performances across town streets.

Meanwhile, the 49th Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico de Almagro will take place from 2 to 26 July 2026. The month‑long programme features a mix of exhibitions, workshops and stage productions, such as "Mujeres, oficios y genealogías del Siglo de Oro" and "reVIVIRla", presented at venues including the Casa Palacio de Juan Jedler and the Corral de Comedias. Both festivals are part of Spain's effort to promote cultural tourism and broaden public engagement with classical theatre.
