Spain's Guardia Civil adds 90 new agents in Cuenca amid nationwide recruitment drive

The Guardia Civil announced the arrival of 90 new members in the province of Cuenca, with 85 permanent appointments and five trainees. Fourteen of the permanent recruits are women, representing 16.5% of the group, and the force aims to bolster rural public safety.

Across Spain, 26,806 candidates sat for entrance exams for 3,240 available positions. Women accounted for 8,696 applicants (32.44%). The average age of candidates was 27, and one‑third hold university or professional qualifications, including 903 with master's degrees and nine PhDs. Exams covering theoretical knowledge and psychometric tests were held in 20 locations across 12 autonomous communities. Successful candidates will move on to physical tests, a personal interview, and medical assessment before training at the Guardia Civil academies.

Both initiatives reflect the government's effort to restore staffing levels in the force and improve security coverage, especially in sparsely populated rural areas.
