Spanish driver caught exceeding 200 km/h on three radars across the country
The Guardia Civil’s traffic investigation unit (GIAT) identified a driver who was recorded traveling at extreme speeds on three separate occasions on 21 February. The vehicle was first clocked at 219 km/h on the A‑4 at Despeñaperros in Jaén, where the limit is 100 km/h. Hours later it was detected at 232 km/h on the A‑6 near Benavente, Zamora, a road limited to 120 km/h, and finally at 242 km/h on the A‑6 at As Nogais, Lugo, also limited to 120 km/h.
Authorities consider the conduct a continuous offence against road safety under article 379.1 of the Spanish Penal Code, which may carry three to six months’ imprisonment, a fine of six to twelve months, community service, and a licence suspension of one to four years. The case is being prosecuted in the provincial court of Lugo.
