Spanish Guardia Civil seizes 1,120 kg of hash in Huelva after gunfire clash

In the early hours of Thursday, the Guardia Civil intercepted a maritime drug shipment off Punta Umbría in the province of Huelva, Spain. 56 bales of hashish weighing roughly 1,120 kg were seized along with a short‑firearm found inside a vehicle.

The operation involved a coordinated land‑and‑sea deployment of multiple units, including the Maritime Service, Traffic, Air Service, the Pegaso team, canine groups and judicial police. When the traffickers attempted to move the load to a van and a car, they opened fire with long‑range weapons. The agents returned fire; no officers were injured. One suspect was arrested, while the others fled on foot. A broader search operation remains active to locate the fugitives.

Police representatives highlighted the incident as evidence of escalating violence by narcotics groups in Andalusia and called for additional resources and stronger legal measures.
