Spain's health ministry reports record blood donations in 2025

The Spanish Ministry of Health reported that 1,070,169 people donated blood in 2025, bringing the total number of blood and component donations to 1,662,035. The supplies are essential for surgeries, oncology treatments, transplants, obstetric emergencies and other medical procedures. The figures were highlighted on World Blood Donor Day 2026, which carried the theme “A drop of humanity. Donate blood. Save lives”.

In the Valencian Community, the regional Blood Transfusion Centre collected more than 77,500 units of blood and 4,696 units of plasma and platelets since January. Plasma collection reached 478,229 litres, a 1.32 % increase over the previous year, including 67,551 litres obtained through apheresis and 108,304 apheresis procedures. Authorities are urging the public to maintain donation levels, especially during the summer months, to ensure self‑sufficiency and reduce dependence on foreign plasma supplies.
