Spain’s historic sites Manzanares el Real castle and Tomelloso Posada attract visitors

The 15th‑century Castillo de los Mendoza in Manzanares el Real, near the Pedriza rock formations and the Santillana reservoir, is one of the best‑preserved medieval castles in the Community of Madrid. Visitors can see its towers, walls, armory displays and historic interiors, although the castle is currently closed to the public. The surrounding landscape offers panoramic views and a popular walking route to the reservoir.

The Posada de los Portales in Tomelloso, Ciudad Real, was built in 1778 by Doña Ángela Peñacarrillo y Morales. It retains its original Manchegan house layout with a three‑storey façade, stone columns, and a courtyard of packed stone. After restoration in the early 1990s it now serves as a cultural centre and was formerly the town’s tourism office. Its historic features include wooden beam ceilings, a primitive kitchen with a large chimney, and preserved rooms such as stables and dormitories.
