Spain’s Hospital Nacional de Parapléjicos launches 360º HNP Care home support program

The Hospital Nacional de Parapléjicos (HNP) in Toledo has unveiled the 360º HNP Care initiative, a pioneering programme that extends specialised spinal‑injury care beyond the hospital stay. The service combines in‑person training, clinical simulation, video‑conferencing and digital tools to provide ongoing education, guidance and support to patients, families, caregivers and health‑professionals, and is also open to people who have never been treated at the centre.

The project was presented by the hospital’s training unit head María Isabel Gómez after a discharged patient asked how to operate a portable ventilator (ambú). Sescam director‑general Alberto Jara attended the launch, emphasising the model’s aim to keep the accumulated expertise of HNP available at home. A live demonstration showed a remote caregiver receiving real‑time advice on respiratory‑care techniques via video link, illustrating the programme’s practical use for post‑discharge support.
