Spain's Hospitals Expand Radiotherapy Services and Launch Patient Schools

The University Hospital of Guadalajara opened a satellite radiotherapy unit in April, operating under the University Hospital of Toledo's Oncology Radiotherapy service. Since 2021 the Toledo service has treated 5,197 patients, increasing to 1,392 patients in 2025, and introduced a brachytherapy unit in 2024 along with advanced techniques such as SBRT and high‑precision radiosurgery. Director Dr. Eva Lozano reported an 85‑point Net Promoter Score for patient satisfaction, ISO certification and ongoing efforts to become a teaching unit.

Meanwhile, the University Hospital Torrecárdenas in Almería, part of the Andalusian Health Service, has held 15 patient‑school sessions in the first half of 2026, involving 61 patients, 10 expert patients, families and health professionals. The programme covers heart failure, fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s disease, renal insufficiency, breast cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, aiming to improve self‑care, knowledge sharing and collaboration between patients and clinicians.
