Fernando Grande-Marlaska addresses security challenges in Cádiz
Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska presided over the Guardia Civil's institutional week in Cádiz, emphasizing that there are no ‘instant or easy solutions’ to complex challenges such as migration and drug trafficking. During his speech, he advocated for a security policy rooted in investment, planning, and cooperation, highlighting recent achievements including a historic increase in personnel and a 1,000 million euro investment in infrastructure.
The event was marked by tension, as the Minister was met with boos and jeers from some members of the public upon his arrival. Additionally, the Unified Association of the Guardia Civil in Cádiz had previously announced it would boycott institutional acts in the province involving the Minister, accusing him of neglecting the force.
The ceremony included a military parade featuring foot, horse, and motorized units. Alongside the Minister were high-ranking officials including Secretary of State for Security Aina Calvo and Director General of the Guardia Civil Mercedes González.
