Spain's Interior Minister challenges judicial decision in Ceuta case

Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska has expressed concern to Isabel Perelló, president of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), regarding a decision by Judge María Tardón of the Audiencia Nacional. The dispute stems from the 'Ceuta case,' where the judge reportedly prohibited National Police agents commissioned to investigate the border assault from informing their superiors and the Government.

In response, Perelló asserted the independence of the judiciary, stating that judicial governing bodies cannot interfere in the decisions of judges. She clarified that any police officer commissioned by a judge automatically assumes the role of judicial police under Spanish law. Perelló emphasized that judicial independence remains a fundamental pillar of the Rule of Law.
