Spain confronts severe drought and wildfire danger ahead of summer heatwave

Firefighters are using aerial surveillance, drones and heavy ground equipment to contain hotspots.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) reported soil humidity below 3 % in parts of the Valencian Community, labeling fire danger as extreme and forecasting temperatures up to 42 °C later in the week. The region has already seen several heat‑related alerts.
In Galicia, multiple forest fires have burned hundreds of hectares this season, including a recent blaze near Taboada in Lugo that scorched about 20 ha before being stabilized with helicopters, aircraft and ground crews.
