Spain's World Cup 2026 hopes rise as key forwards recover and local officials endorse title bid

Acting mayor of Madiun, Indonesia, Bagus Panuntun said he supports Spain (La Roja) to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup, praising the team's balanced line‑up, attractive ball‑play and the impact of young winger Lamine Yamal. Panuntun also predicted that France’s Kylian Mbappé will be the tournament’s top scorer.

Separately, the Spanish national team confirmed that forwards Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams have completed their injury‑rehabilitation programmes and are back training with the squad ahead of the tournament. Their return has boosted morale as Spain prepares for its Group H opener against Cape Verde on 15 June in Atlanta, followed by matches against Saudi Arabia and Uruguay. The 2026 World Cup will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
