Spain's local economies see mixed signs: retail sales boost and unemployment dip

Retailers in Soria province are launching a summer discount campaign with up to 30% off, aiming to clear excess stock from an uneven spring sales period. The sector expects consumer spending to exceed €100 per shopper and foresees a sales increase of around 5% compared with the previous campaign, hoping the discounts will improve liquidity for the second half of the year.

In the neighboring region of Morvedre, registered unemployment fell by 79 people in June, continuing a trend of job creation noted by the CCOO union. However, the union highlighted ongoing challenges for women, who account for 62% of the unemployed, and for workers aged 45 and older, who make up nearly 57% of job seekers. CCOO called for higher wages and measures to curb price speculation to improve purchasing power.
