Spain's telecom market sees Digi IPO plans and Telefónica free‑call aid
Telecommunications operator Digi Communications is evaluating a return to the stock market in Spain, targeting a €300 million capital raise. After postponing a planned listing in April because of market volatility, the firm may relaunch the IPO in July or later this year, with the aim of strengthening its balance sheet and financing expansion in Spain, the UK, Portugal and Belgium.
At the same time, Telefónica, through its Movistar and O2 brands, has activated free voice calls and text messages to Venezuela following a series of magnitude‑7‑plus earthquakes. The service is offered to personal and business lines, as well as roaming users, and includes several days of free eSIM‑based connectivity for people traveling to the country for humanitarian or professional reasons.
A new low‑cost mobile operator, Sona, has entered the Spanish market offering a €9.95 per month plan with 30 GB data, unlimited calls and an AI‑driven spam‑call‑blocking feature that intercepts unwanted numbers before they ring.
Separately, users of Digi, Movistar and Orange reported widespread disruptions to fiber broadband and mobile services on 25 June, prompting a spike in outage alerts on monitoring platforms.
