Spain's Murcia Region Pays €29.6M Agro‑Aid as Valdepeñas Wine DO Ends Crisis

The regional government of Murcia announced the accelerated payment of €29.6 million in agro‑environmental subsidies to more than 6,100 farmers and livestock owners. The funds, allocated under the European Common Agricultural Policy, support sustainable practices such as organic farming, steppe bird protection, habitat maintenance in Natura 2000 sites, beekeeping for biodiversity and the conservation of native breeds. The aid had previously been earmarked and its deadline was close to expiring.

In Castilla‑La Mancha, a court order issued on 10 June confirmed the legal transfer of the assets of the former Inter‑professional body of the Valdepeñas Designation of Origin (DO) to the newly created Association Inter‑professional Vinos de Valdepeñas (Intervaldepeñas). The ruling ends a multi‑year internal conflict within the historic wine region, restores a single representative organization for producers and wineries, and secures the use of transferred assets for the DO’s management, promotion and protection activities.
