Vox pushes ‘national priority’ rule for public aid and housing in Congress

Vox defended a non‑law proposal in the final ordinary plenary session of the Spanish Congress, urging that public aid and access to protected housing be reserved for those with a verifiable, durable link to Spain. The party called for a reinforced minimum period of registration – ten years to purchase protected homes and five years to rent – and for aid to be tied to contributions and work history. It also sought to exclude irregular migrants except in cases of vital urgency, and to bar individuals convicted of recent home‑invasion or usurpation crimes.

The proposal is part of broader, contentious agreements between Vox and the People’s Party that shape coalition governments in Extremadura, Aragon and Castile‑León, while negotiations continue in Andalusia. Vox’s motion to extend the “national priority” principle to protected housing did not secure backing in the previous parliamentary vote.
